Co-Lin Workforce graduates 13 medical assistants
WESSON – Copiah-Lincoln Community College’s Workforce Education division recently graduated 13 from the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) non-credit training program. Enrollees began the six-month training program in February and now have the necessary skills to provide both clinical and administrative support to a wide range of healthcare providers.
As facilities begin to seek employees with diverse skill sets, this training program works to respond to that hiring pattern in the healthcare industry. A CCMA works alongside doctors and nurses to administer medications, obtain laboratory specimens, assist with minor procedures, perform electrocardiograms, provide patient education, record vital signs, administer injections, and execute administrative office tasks.
Training topics included, but are not limited to, medical terminology, basic pharmacology, nutrition, psychology, anatomy and physiology, clinical patient care, infection control, testing and laboratory procedures, phlebotomy, patient care coordination and education, administrative assistant skills, and medical law and ethics. In addition to classroom curriculum, students are required to participate in scheduled computer lab studies and clinical rotations. Once training is successfully completed, students will be eligible to test for the National Healthcareer Association CCMA National Board exam for licensure.
Anyone interested in future CCMA training classes should start the application process by downloading the packet from https://workforce.colin.edu/ccma or by calling 601.643.8707. A High School Diploma or High School Equivalency/GED is required for enrollment. Participants must also take the ACT WorkKeys Assessment and earn a silver level or greater National Career Readiness Certificate. Further requirements are outlined in the application packet.
Individuals interested in any of Co-Lin’s career training programs should call 601.643.8707 or visit our website at https://workforce.colin.edu/calendar.
