Adams named Co-Lin Dean of Workforce Education
WESSON – Dr. Geanell C. Adams has been named Copiah-Lincoln Community College Dean of Workforce Education effective February 26, 2024. She brings a wealth of experience and leadership to this crucial role, where she will spearhead efforts to strengthen Co-Lin's workforce development initiatives.
Copiah-Lincoln Community College's Workforce Education program (Co-Lin Workforce) is committed to fostering a thriving community by empowering individuals and strengthening the business and industry landscape within the district. Dr. Adams will lead this effort through a two-pronged approach, individual skills development, and employee training partnerships with employers.
Individual Development: Co-Lin Workforce provides short-term, non-credit training programs designed to equip individuals with the skills and certifications needed for in-demand careers in transportation, healthcare, and other vital sectors.
Employer Partnerships: Co-Lin Workforce partners with businesses to help offset the costs of upskilling or reskilling their workforce through affordable, customized training programs. This not only benefits businesses but also contributes to a more skilled and competitive talent pool within the community.
This targeted approach fosters individual skill development and strengthens employer engagement, ensuring our workforce receives the necessary training and support to thrive in the region. Through these tailored programs and partnerships, Co-Lin Workforce Education lays the groundwork for a successful local workforce," Dr. Adams emphasized.
Adams comes to Co-Lin from the Central Mississippi Planning and Development District where she served as the Workforce Coordinator. In this role, she was responsible for the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) program staff development at WIN Job Centers, oversaw the development and management of more than $10 million in subaward and contract budgets, and was heavily involved in local workforce development.
"Dr. Geanell Adams' extensive background in workforce coordination and career-technical education uniquely positions her to forge strong partnerships with businesses and industries, facilitating the development and delivery of essential training programs tailored to meet the evolving needs of the workforce in the Co-Lin district,” said Wesson Campus Vice President Jackie Martin.
Dr. Adams earned her bachelor’s, master’s, and specialist’s degrees from Delta State University, and a Doctor of Education degree from The University of Mississippi. She is also a graduate of the Mississippi Community College Leadership Academy and Hinds Community College Instructional Leadership Academy.
Co-Lin Workforce Education is funded by the Mississippi Workforce Enhancement Training Fund and administered by AccelerateMS whose mission is to develop and deploy workforce strategies to connect individuals in the labor force with transformative, high-paying careers. AccelerateMS strives to influence positive change and to create sustained individual, community, and statewide economic success.
